Rauschenberg erases de Kooning
10 October 2014–23 November 2014
The National Gallery
In connection with the Drawing Biennial 2014, the National Museum will be exhibiting a key example of postwar art: Robert Rauschenberg’s Erased de Kooning Drawing (1953), on loan from the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.
The conceptual basis of this piece encompasses de Kooning's contribution of the original drawing, Rauschenberg's intervention, and the modified drawing.
Watch Rauschenberg explain how the work came about.
