Absolute Installation

The 1990s witnessed that installation art become an emergent form of expression in the post-modern art world. This is reflected in the National Museum's collection. The presentation points toward the possibilities of the museum's new building at Vest-banen.

Each work in the collection stands as a world unto itself. These distinct worlds nonethe-less exert a mutual attraction on each other and can envelop, engage and soothe. The exhibition is an acknowledgment to the installation art of the 1990s, and works from the 2000s demonstrate the continuity of the art form.

The artists included are: Christian Boltanski, Suvi Nieminen, Olav Christopher Jenssen, Per Barclay, Maria Serebriakova, Magnus Wallin, Bill Viola, Per Maning, Anish Kapoor, Bjarne Melgaard, A K Dolven, avaf, Silvie and Shérif Defraoui, George Adéagbo, Else Marie Hagen, Jon Gundersen, William Kentridge, Louise Bourgeois and Ilya Kabakov.
