This American-Cuban artist duo often provide commentary on key political issues through their works, such as in the films about the demolition of the Palast der Republik in Berlin, conditions in New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina or US use of Isla de Vieques in Puerto Rico for testing grounds for bombs. They also address more subtle issues, however, such as in the visually striking installation, Sediments, Sentiments (Figures of Speech), which can evoke associations with Caspar David Friedrich as well as utopian visions of catastrophe. Even though the topics are on the serious side, the artists also use a great amount of humour in their works, which span from simple drawings to complex installations, videos, photographs, film and woodcuts.
