Exhibition catalogues

Exhibition catalogues are an important source for art history research, and constitute a major part of the library’s collection.

The collection consists mainly of exhibition catalogues from Norwegian and Nordic museums and galleries, although we do hold many from elsewhere in Europe and America. The library also has a large number of catalogues from international exhibitions and major biennials and triennials, such as the Venice Biennale, São Paulo, Manifesta and Documenta in Kassel.

The library has a special collection MU, consisting of work lists and exhibition catalogues from most exhibition venues in Norway, and which stretches from around 1900 through to the 2000s. The library also has a separate artists archive containing invitations and similar material.

Some of the exhibition catalogues and exhibition work lists are only registered in the card index.
