The Museum of Contemporary Art
Address: Bankplassen 4
The Museum of Contemporary Art first opened its doors in 1990. It shows temporary exhibitions of both loaned works and works from its own collections. Visitors can see three permanent installations: the sculpture Shaft by Richard Serra, Per Inge Bjørlo’s Inner Room V, and Ilya Kabakov’s The Garbage Man: The Man Who Never Threw Anything Away.
The National Museum’s collection of contemporary art contains some 5,000 works by Norwegian and international artists from the years since 1945. The collection covers a broad spectrum of genres and media: painting, print-making, drawing, photography, sculpture, objects, installation and video-art.
