Through numerous exhibitions, research projects and teaching activities, the Milan and Rotterdam based design studio Formafantasma has explored the complex interaction between design and the environment.

What is the social and political impact of active choices that designers make? How can design be an agent for societal and systemic transformation?

In this talk, entitled An Open Diorama, Formafantasma addresses the research-based format in exhibition making and why the format is essential in order to question current ways of production and material extraction in the design field at large. Based on the experience of working with the exhibition Oltre Terra. Why Wool Matters at the National Museum, the talk focuses on the benefits and necessities of a cross-disciplinary perspective to reveal new knowledge.
