Narrator:

Edvard Munch, who painted this picture, said that one evening he was walking along a road with two friends. The sun was just setting and suddenly the sky turned blood red!

Munch thought that the clouds looked as though they were made of blood.

His friends walked on, leaving Edvard Munch standing there, all alone.

He was terrified!

He said that it was as if he could hear a huge scream through nature.

Voice:

A scream through nature?

Narrator:

Yes, that’s how he described it.

Voice:

Like this?

(Screams as loudly as possible)

Narrator:

Well perhaps.

But it could also be that you open your mouth and scream as loudly as you can, but without making any sound at all!

As though you are screaming inside, and just showing that you are screaming with your face and your body.

Can you do that?

Have a go!

Voice:

(Tries as hard as possible)

Narrator:

Yes, something like that!

And guess what.

In 1994, The Scream was stolen!

Voice:

Noooo!

Narrator:

Yes, it’s completely incredible!

Luckily the museum got it back.

Today it’s one of the most famous paintings in the whole world!

It even has its own emoji!

What do you think Edvard Munch would have thought about that?
