When we look at a piece of jewellery, either on our own or someone else's body, or in another context, different experiences and questions come up:
Who owns it?
Is it real?
What's it made from?
and for who?
Is it supposed to be worn? or is it just for show?

Jewellery has many roles in society – often used to represent love and relationships, gifts and glamour, but also more generally to symbolise spirituality, religion, power, social status, or even civic rank.

The Norwegian artist, Lars Sture, originally trained as a goldsmith, and some of his artworks bring this background to the fore.
Other themes in his work include challenging and twisting traditions.

Spectacular Event – a light installation mounted on the wall – is shaped to reference a classic necklace; one large circle, with three smaller semicircles at the bottom.
These are all cast in aluminum with high edges, which then home 54 illuminated light bulbs.
At about two meters high, the installation, and its strong golden light, is visible from quite far away.

Where jewellery is usually a small and sometimes personal item, worn on your person, here it is represented as large and very public!

The traditional roles, associations, and dialogue about jewellery are brought into a larger public debate, and Sture invites viewers to question social status and codes, and the lines between belonging and being an outsider.
