My life! My choice?

Here you can listen to a summary of the novel The Family at Gilje. Learn about the choices the three children in the family have to make and the expectations of those around them. Although the novel was written more than two centuries ago, the issues it addresses are still familiar to us today.

The exhibition “My Life! My Choice?” presents a selection of Erik Werenskiold’s illustrations for Jonas Lie’s novel The Family at Gilje, along with new works by contemporary artists Hanne Lydia Opøien Figenschou and Gelawesh Waledkhani.

The works on display explore the question of how we live and our freedom to choose. It is part of the the Drawing Triennial organised by Tegnerforbundet (the Norwegian Drawing Center).
