Behind the curtains of Anna Brueghels and Judith Leysters workshops
Welcome to a lecture that takes you behind the scenes of two seventeenth-century painters' workshops.
In the Low Countries, women were often the driving force behind a painter painter's workshop. Yet, their contributions remain largely invisible in museums today, as paintings are typically attributed to their husbands.
In this lecture, curator Cynthia Osiecki will focus on the roles women played in 17th-century painters' workshops by focusing on Judith Leyster in Haarlem and Anna Brueghel in Antwerp. Both women were accomplished painters, but their main contributions took place behind the scenes.
