Psychopromts

Transcription
There’s many transitional phases in life, some are so great that throughout history we’ve created mythical figures and gods to accompany us on the journey. Perhaps to guide or instruct, or to challenge and warn. Valkyries, Shinigami, Amokye, and Shiva are some of these.
In technical terms, these are called psychopomps.
These sculptures aren’t made to be psychopomps, but they meet you in the exhibition with a physical presence.
They represent figures from different times and they can be modelled after actual people, such as Maria Pasenau's self-portrait in pine, Gustav Vigeland's plaster of a young girl, or the pharaoh Amenhotep III.
In Sandra Mujinga's three sculptures, there are no actual bodies, only three suits that can hide anyone.
Who would you like to take with you on the journey?
