BOOM! – a book bundle for children and adults
The book bundle accompanies the exhibition BOOM! at the National Museum – Architecture. The exhibition shows how the baby boom influenced the architecture in the post-war era, and you can take part in changing one of the installations. From 1940 to 1970, Norway experienced one of its biggest demographic shifts in modern times: the baby boom. Children of all ages filled schools, homes and public spaces. The modern welfare state put children centre stage, and urban plans and housing developments were designed with children in mind. Architecture was seen as an important tool for shaping and educating the citizens of the future.
In the book bundle, eight researchers and authors explore children and play from a variety of perspectives. The accompanying building set, designed by Studio Ossidiana, can be endlessly reconfigured, inviting creative experimentation and engagement. The book bundle is intended for both children and adults.
