In the exhibition Oltre Terra. Why Wool Matters in The National Museum 26 May–1 October 2023, the Italian design studio Formafantasma investigates the history, ecology and global dynamics of the extraction and production of wool.
The book Oltre Terra, published on the occasion of the exhibition, gives insight into Formafantasma’s work through interviews with and essays by researchers, designers and artists. The aim is to show that wool is not only a raw material but part of a broader ecology.
The book is published by Walter König in collaboration with the National Museum and designed by Studio Joost Grootens. It includes contributions by: Badger Bates, Luca Battaglini, Elena Ciani, Hamish Chandler, Vinciane Despret, Hanne Eide, Formafantasma, Tim Ingold, Ingun Klepp, Tone Skårdal Tobiasson, Lottozero, Ewan McEoin, Michel Meuret, Marco Paganoni, Alessandro Rabottini, Marcelo R.
