Institutional Genealogies – performance art and the museum

A computer-animated human figure with an open mouth says “the craving to make something become visible”.
Maren Dagny Juell, The Guided Tour, video still, 2024

Welcome to a one-day programme of reflections on how performance art and art institutions influence each other today!

Institutional Genealogies will be a unique opportunity to encounter forward-looking reflections from artists, curators, and conservators who work with performance locally and internationally. Rather than adressing performance through fixed categories, the programme’s focal point is how the art form can transmute and affect institutional frameworks and vice versa.

The one-day seminar brings together voices which collectively weave reflections on exhibition-making, surprising stories of custodianship and mediation, perspectives from critical artistic practices, conversations about the purpose and ethics of conservation, and a performance lecture.
